MTN, Vodafone agree to interconnect mobile money services
MTN and Vodafone signed an agreement to interconnect their mobile money services to enable customers of MTN Mobile Money and M-Pesa in East Africa to transfer money to each other. The interconnect collaboration between the region's two biggest mobile money operators will enable convenient and affordable international remittances between M-Pesa customers in Kenya, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo and Mozambique, and MTN Mobile Money customers in Uganda, Rwanda and Zambia. Under the terms of their Memorandum of Understanding, MTN Group and Vodafone Group will also share best practices and work together to define the rules and standards of mobile-based remittances in Africa.

Tigo Tanzania inks money transfer service deal with Vodacom

Millicom announced that customers of its Tigo Pesa mobile money service in Tanzania will be the first in Africa to be able to transact with users of all their country's mobile money networks, following an agreement with Vodacom's M-Pesa service. Sub-Saharan African mobile money worth USD 656 mln in 2014

The Sub-Saharan African mobile money market earned revenues of USD 655.8 million in 2014 and this should reach USD 1.32 billion in 2019, according to research by Frost & Sullivan.
