MTS picks Samsung for LTE network deployment in North-West
Russian mobile operator MTS has concluded a contract with Samsung on the deployment of a LTE network in North-Western Russia. Samsung will supply the equipment, build the network and carry out technical support under the three-year contract. It will also install software for the network infrastructure. The size of the deal totals USD 55 million. Some 3,000 base stations are due to be deployed under the first stage of the project and the service should run at 75 Mbps. A LTE FDD network will be launched in the city of St Petersburg and in surrounding region, in Komi republic and in the Archangel region by the end of 2014.

Russian mobile operator MTS has launched its LTE network in the Trans-Baykal region, reports Komsomolskaya Pravda. The commercial LTE FDD service was launched in the city of Chita, as well as in Arapovka, Domna, Drovyannaya, Shishkino villages in the Chita municipality and in Sherlovaya-Gora village in the Borzinskiy municipality. Russian operators to expand LTE to smaller towns

Russian operators Megafon, MTS and Beeline plan to bring their LTE services to towns with 10,000 to 50,000 residents under their investment programmes, aiming to cover 23 million residents in such towns. The operators are already obliged by their licencing agreements to provide LTE services in cities and towns with more than 50,000 residents. Such larger places have 79 million inhabitants, comprising 55 percent of the country's population.

Russian mobile operators to test LTE on GSM bands

Russian mobile operators MTS, Megafon and Vimpelcom plan to carry out testing of the use of bands for simultaneous LTE 1800 and GSM 1800 services, reports Itar-Tass. Testing is planned for 12 to 22 August. Testing will take place in the Naro-Fominsk municipality in the Moscow region. Testing the LTE 1800 area will include 21 base stations with the three operators running seven base stations each. They will use 5 MHz-wide LTE bands.

Nokia Siemens Networks is extending its contract with Russia and CIS operator Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) by deploying FDD LTE in the Moscow and Central Russia regions during the third quarter this year. MTS to offer LTE in 600 cities by 2015

Russian mobile operator MTS plans to deploy LTE in over 600 cities and towns across the country by the end of 2014, reports Prime citing Andrey Dubovskov, the president of MTS. The operator also aims to maintain its ratio of debt to EBITDA at 1.1-1.5x. Capital expenditure will total 18-19 percent of revenues through 2015. Russian mobile operator MTS has launched an LTE FDD network at the Moscow-City business centre. The operator plans to deploy around 2,000 LTE FDD base stations in Moscow byl the end of 2014, using 720-727,5/761-768,7МHz, 798,5-806/839,5-847 МHz, and 2540-2550/2660-2670 МHz bands.
