
MTS picks Samsung for LTE network deployment in North-West

Russian mobile operator MTS has concluded a contract with Samsung on the deployment of a LTE network in North-Western Russia. Samsung will supply the equipment, build the network and carry out technical support under the three-year contract. It will also install software for the network infrastructure. The size of the deal totals USD 55 million. Some 3,000 base stations are due to be deployed under the first stage of the project and the service should run at 75 Mbps. A LTE FDD network will be launched in the city of St Petersburg and in surrounding region, in Komi republic and in the Archangel region by the end of 2014.
