Multimedia Polska agrees merger with Vectra to create Poland's largest cable operator

Cable operator Multimedia Polska has agreed a sale to Vectra, the second-largest cable company in Poland. This follows Multimedia's failed merger with the largest cable operator UPC, which was blocked by competition concerns after long delays.

Multimedia Polska and Vectra said they are still negotiating a definitive agreement, but have already applied to the competition regulator Uokik for clearance. No financial details of the deal were disclosed.

If the deal goes ahead, Vectra will become the biggest cable operator in Poland. At the end of 2017, Vectra had over 900,000 customers and Multimedia Polska more than 750,000, compared to 1.43 million at UPC Poland. In terms of coverage, Vectra and Multimedia together pass around 4.3 million homes.
