Music labels awarded USD 1 bln in Cox Communications music piracy case

Cox Communications has been ordered to pay damages amounting to USD 1 billion to a number of record labels for allowing internet subscribers to illegally download music in one of several similar lawsuits brought against ISPs. A US federal court in Alexandria, Virginia, found that Cox was liable for infringement of 10,017 recordings and compositions, each infringement costing over USD 99,000, reports Variety.
