South Korean internet portal operator Naver has announced it will cooperate with chipmaker Qualcomm to develop its artificial intelligence (AI) platform dubbed ‘Clova’, Yonhap news agency reports. Under the terms of an agreement with Qualcomm Technologies, Naver will provide Clova for use with the Qualcomm’s Internet of Things (IoT) chip processors. Various IoT products such as a smart speaker equipped with Qualcomm's IoT chips will also use the Clova platform, Naver said.

"We expect the cooperation with Qualcomm will help us boost the Clova-based AI system platform ecosystem", said Naver CEO Han Seong-sook. Naver also plans to provide Clova on smartphones equipped with Qualcomm's mobile processors as a basic AI system platform.

Naver and its Japanese affiliate Line also plan to launch a smart speaker dubbed ‘Wave’, based the Clova CLOud Virtual Assistant by the end of the first half of 2017.
