Naver to launch AI-based smart speaker with Line - report

Naver plans to launch an artificial intelligence (AI) embedded smart speaker this summer. Naver and its Japanese affiliate Line are working to launch the smart speaker based on the Clova CLOud Virtual Assistant by the end of the first half to this year, Yonhap news agency reports, citing unnamed industry sources. Dubbed ‘Wave’, the AI-based speaker will initially be available in Japan, under the Line product portfolio, and Naver also plans to launch it in South Korea.

The Clova platform combines speech recognition and natural language understanding to respond to the users’ questions or provide information. The Clova platform will use big data to provide customized services depending on a user's culture and geography, the same sources said.
