Nearly half of Spanish mobile users have permanence clause

Around 47.5 percent of Spanish mobile users remain tied to an operator via a permanence clause, according to a survey by sector regulator CNMC. In spite of the increasing popularity of unlocked phones, around 57.8 percent of permanence clauses are due to the user acquiring a subsidised handset, followed by 29.3 percent due to improved contract conditions and 22.6 percent due to users subscribing to a converged fixed-mobile offer. The survey also revealed that nearly a quarter (24.4 percent) of Spanish users subscribed to a pay-TV service in the first half of 2015, up from 21.9 percent a year
