NEC quarterly losses widen

NEC"s net loss swelled to JPY 21.5 billion in the fiscal first quarter to June from JPY 17.9 billion, due to a slowdown in the mobile phone business as well as weaker demand for enterprise systems and carrier network equipment. The company announced plans to exit the smartphone market alongside the results. Its revenues were up 1.4 percent year-on-year to JPY 640.1 billion, thanks to growth in the public sector and retail segment.
