Nemzeti Mobilfizetesi to continue to operate Hungary's national mobile payment system

Hungarian mobile payments company Nemzeti Mobilfizetesi (NM) received a contract extension from the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (INM) to continue to manage the country's national mobile payment system (NMFR). However, the two parties amended their contract after the EU Court of Justice decided that NM's monopoly violates the EU's Services Directive. The court found the requirement for public service providers to use the m-payment system violated the principle of proportionality in EU law.
