NENT obtains exclusive rights to show 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup in Sweden, Norway, Denmark

Thursday 19 November 2020 | 11:41 CET | News

Nordic Entertainment Group said it has acquired the exclusive rights to show the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Sweden, Norway and Denmark. It will show all 64 matches from the tournament in Australia and New Zealand on its Viaplay streaming service and selected games on its free-TV channels. In the 2019 tournament, Sweden came third place and drew 2.3 million viewers for its semi-final game against the Netherlands.

Sweden (current FIFA ranking 5), Norway (12) and Denmark (16) are all expected to qualify for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup (July and August), giving a global platform for stars such as Pernille Harder (Denmark), Magdalena Eriksson (Sweden) and Caroline Graham Hansen (Norway), as well as rising talents such as Nicoline Sorensen (Denmark), Ingrid Syrstad Engen (Norway) and Loreta Kullashi (Sweden).

The 2023 competition will be expanded to 32 teams and 64 games from 24 teams and 52 games in 2019. NENT said it also holds the exclusive Nordic rights to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, Frauen-Bundesliga and Division 1 Feminine NENT also shows the French cup final and super cup final. Through the BEAT Diabetes Foundation, NENT has partnered with Swedish football club Helsingborgs IF in a multi-year investment in grassroots women’s and girls' football.
