Nepal bans WeChat Pay, Alipay

Thursday 23 May 2019 | 07:44 CET | News
Nepal banned popular Chinese digital payment apps WeChat Pay and AliPay saying their payments were not registered with the regulator in Nepal, writes Reuters citing a spokesman for the Nepal Rastra Bank, Laxmi Prapanna Niroula. Niroula said these apps were using Nepal's internet connectivity but transactions were made in China and not reflected in the Himalayan nation's national accounts, a fact which results in a loss of income to the country.
