Nest wins smart themostats contract with Electric Ireland

Google's connected-home devices company, Nest, has signed an agreement to offer free Nest thermostats to customers of power utility Electric Ireland on two-year contracts, Nest founder Tony Fadell announced at the Web Summit. The Irish Times reports that the deal will enable up to 1.2 million of the utility company's customers to obtain the learning thermostat, which tracks user behaviour to automatically optimise a home's heating for better fuel efficiency. From 12 November new customers who sign a two-year electricity contract will receive the device free of charge with no installation
