Net Neutrality could lead to higher internet prices - Fitch

Tuesday 11 June 2013 | 12:35 CET | News
European ISPs may increase tariffs to help pay for network investment and limit pressure on cash flows if the EU introduces net neutrality regulations preventing them from discriminating between different types of data traffic, according to Fitch Ratings. If ISPs are forced to treat all data equally, they will not be able to transfer some of their costs by charging premium rates to content providers to carry or prioritise their traffic. Fitch continues to believe that competition and commercial imperatives will remain bigger drivers of operator investments than regulations.
