Netflix to finance films for theatres
Netflix said it will finance movies that will debut simultaneously in theatres and on its streaming video service, starting with a sequel to "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" (2000), Re/Code reported. The film will be produced by the Weinstein Company. The "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend" will debut on Netflix in August and at some Imax theaters. It will not appear in any other theatre chains.

Netflix not in talks with Dutch providers

Netflix has no plans for any distribution agreements with Dutch providers in order to gain market share, CEO Reed Hastings told the NRC Handelsblad. Hastings said that parties like UPC and Ziggo still had no idea what to do with Netflix. German to lead Netflix's European content acquisitions

Netflix has named Kai Finke as its content acquisitions director for Europe, according to German magazine Kontakter. Finke will move to Los Angeles for this job as he currently works as VoD specialist at Telepool, the sales subsidiary of German public TV channels BR, MDR, SWR and Swiss public broadcaster SRG.

Netflix said it will be funding four movies made by and starring Adam Sandler, and that the movies will run exclusively on Netflix, Re/Code reported. The company did not say if the movies would also appear in movie theatres.

Netflix streaming soars 350% since 2011 – study

Netflix streaming has rocketed by 350 percent over the last 10 quarters, growing from 2 billion hours in the final quarter of 2011 to 7 billion hours as of the second quarter of this year, according to research from The Diffusion Group (TDG).
