Netflix to launch in Netherlands this year
Netflix announced its next international market will be the Netherlands. The company plans to launch there later this year, offering a subscription service for on-demand TV and movies. Further details will be announced closer to launch. Started in the US, Netflix has since expanded to Canada, the UK, Ireland, Scandinavia and a number of Latin American countries.

Netflix: complementary rather than competition

Netflix launched in the Netherlands on 11 September, the company's 41st country after the US, Canada, Latin America, UK, Ireland and Scandinavia. Netflix Dutch launch expected 11 September

Netflix is expected to announce its launch on the Dutch market on 11 September. Various media reported receiving an invitation to a Netflix event that day. The streaming video service had already said it plans to launch in the third quarter, but an exact date had not been announced. In July, the Telecompaper Consumer Panel looked at whether consumers are interested in the new service. Only 10 percent said they were likely to take a subscription, while almost 30 percent were not familiar with Netflix.

Around 10 percent of Dutch consumers say they will likely subscribe to Netflix when the streaming video services launches later in the quarter, according to the latest survey from Telecompaper. Revenues from video-on-demand services in the Netherlands will grow from an estimated EUR 97 million in 2013 to EUR 206 million in 2017, according to a report from PwC.
