Netflix to pass new Chile VAT charge to subscribers

Monday 11 May 2020 | 10:42 CET | News
Netflix has announced plans to increase the price of all its packages in Chile to reflect the government's new value-added tax on multinational providers of over-the-top (OTT) digital services. The 19 percent VAT charge was passed into law earlier this year, meaning companies such as Netflix, Spotify, Amazon and HBO GO which offer digital services domestically but don't have a physical presence in Chile will be required to pay up on a quarterly basis starting 01 June.
