Netflix to try boosting sales with cheaper prices
Netflix wants to trial a cheaper version of its streaming service in some markets to see if that would boost sales, CEO Reed Hastings told Bloomberg. Hastings did not say where prices might be lowered but said the company wants to experiment. Netflix offers subscriptions at three price levels, and doesn’t plan to lower the cost for its cheapest tier. Rather, there would be a fourth tier, with different features. Beyond experimental price cuts, Netflix is also interested in raising prices in other markets.

Netflix, with over 130 million subscribers, is looking to Asia for new customers after starting services in the region three years ago. Growth has been slow and customer numbers still under 2 million in any country, according to estimates by Media Partners Asia. The company announced 17 new shows from five Asian countries at an event last week in Singapore.
