Netflix working on Dutch originals

The Netherlands will get a Netflix series that is fully financed by the US company and is exclusively available at Netflix, Netflix VP Original said, as reported by NOS. It is not known when the Dutch show will be on offer.

Netflix has already released originals in several European countries, including in Germany, France and Denmark.

In Belgium, Netflix will start next year with the Dutch-language Undercover series. The company is working on other series with a number of Belgian producers, including Jan Theys and Nico Molenaar, plus Belgian production company De Mensen, film distributor Dutch Filmworks and Flemish public broadcaster VRT.

Video on Demand continues to grow in the Netherlands 

Netflix is ​​the largest player in the Dutch on-demand video market. Subscriptions have risen despite a price increase. The service now reaches over a third of all Dutch households. TV remains the most important means of viewing streaming video, but the mobile phone is increasingly being used to consume video, according to research by Telecompaper.

Almost a third of the Dutch with a smartphone have the Netflix app on their mobile device, translating into 4 million people in the country. Around 2.7 million of them use the app at least once a week, according to Telecompaper’s Dutch Apps Market report.
