New FCC rules give phone companies power to block robocalls

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) had approved a new set of rules to give phone companies the power to proactively block calls that are likely to be fraudulent because they come from certain types of phone numbers. The Commission said Americans may get around 2.4 billion robocalls a month, resulting in around 200,000 complaints every month, by far the FCC's top consumer complaint. As a result, voice service providers are now expressly authorised to block robocalls that appear to be from telephone numbers that do not or cannot make outgoing calls, without flouting the FCC's call
