New iPhones showing problems with T-Mobile NL network

Hundreds of T-Mobile Netherlands customers with new Apple iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus or iPhone X smartphpone models have been experiencing problems with voice and data connections on the operator’s mobile network for more than three months. Phone calls get lost after a few seconds and data connections regularly break down for several minutes, RTL News reports.

Apple and T-Mobile NL have not yet found a solution to the problems. The cause seems to occur when switching between the 4G and 3G connection of T-Mobile NL, though a company spokesperson could not confirm this. It is noteworthy that the problems only occur with T-Mobile NL. No such issues have been reported with other Dutch providers, when networks switch from 4G to 3G or vice versa.

A spokesperson for T-Mobile told RTL News that about 4 out of every 1,000 new iPhones are experiencing these problems. Customers who have these problems can exchange their device. Most new devices see an end to the issues. RTL Nieuws notes, however, that the exchange of the relevant devices has not always gone smoothly and that customers regularly have to wait weeks for a new device. Some customers might even have been told that their new iPhone should be repaired. At the Dutch Apple Stores, employees are aware of issues with some new iPhone devices in combination with the T-Mobile network, but here, too, customers sometimes have to push for a new replacement device.
