NFC-enabled phone shipments to soar fourfold in 5 yrs

Global shipments of mobile phones equipped with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology will surge by more than a factor of four from 2013 to 2018, reaching 1.2 billion units, according to a report by IHS Technology. Worldwide shipments of NFC-enabled mobile phones climbed to 275 million units in 2013, up 128 percent from 120 million in 2012. The market will expand by more than 50 percent this year to reach 416 million.
