Niel sets sights on Italian producer Cattleya - report

Mediawan, the 'special purpose acquisition company' (SPAC) co-founded by Xavier Niel, has joined Vivendi in a race to acquire Italian independent production company Cattleya, according to unnamed sources cited by French business weekly La Lettre de l'Expansion. Rome-based Cattleya has produced over 60 Italian feature films but is most famous for its widely-exported TV series Gomorrah. Mediawan recently entered into exclusive negotiations to acquire content producer, distributor and broadcaster Groupe AB for around EUR 270 million as part of an ambitious plan to build an independent premium
