Nkom tells Telenor to offer wholesale customers fixed wireless leased lines

Monday 2 December 2019 | 15:01 CET | News

Norwegian communications regulator Nkom has told Telenor it must provide wholesale customers with access to its wireless lines, as it replaces its copper network with fibre and mobile technology. Many Telenor customers are currently receiving offers of fixed wireless broadband as a substitute for copper, which is gradually being decommissioned.

Nkom said Telenor must give alternative providers the opportunity to lease fixed wireless access, so those wholesale customers can offer them to their own end-users. It is already obliged to offer them leased lines on copper and fibre. Telenor aims to shut down the copper grid by the end of 2023.

Telenor has until 01 February 2020 to publish a standard wholesale mobile broadband offering and it must be up and running by 01 March. The operator has until 19 December to respond, and any other interested parties should submit comments by the same date.
