NLkabel says new EU broadband targets not needed

Dutch industry group NLkabel said the EU does not need to strengthen its broadband targets. It was responding to the European Commission's consultation on speed and quality of broadband in the EU for 2020, which just closed. The current targets are for universal access to at least 30 Mbps and half of EU households using 100 Mbps or faster by 2020. The cable industry group noted that in the Netherlands around 97 percent of the expected bandwidth needed in 2020 has already been delivered.
