Nokia AirScale software upgrade allows operators to expand capacity without more spectrum

Nokia said it has enhanced 5G capacity via a software upgrade for its commercial AirScale product. Once commercially available, it will allow operators to increase their network capacity "vastly" via a software update, without having to invest in more spectrum. A laboratory test delivered approximately 3 Gbps total downlink cell throughout using Sprint 5G, with a software upgrade of E-UTRAN New Radio - Dual Connectivity (EN-DC) and Multi-User-Multiple Input Multiple Output (MU-MIMO), said Nokia.
