Norway parliament plans new hearing on Vimpelcom case

Norway is looking to hold fresh hearings on the Vimpelcom corruption case after the operator said it reached a settlement with US and Dutch authorities. The Norwegian parliament planned to hold a hearing last December on the matter and Telenor's role as shareholder in Vimpelcom, but was forced to cancel after public prosecutors said the public hearing could compromise their investigation into the case. Martin Kolberg, head of the parliamentary committee on oversight and constitutional affairs, said the prosecutor had said said in a letter that there was no longer any significant risk from

I think Telenor's approach in Asia particularly in India is somewhat too agrresive that the risks what the management are taking may not be always aligned with the expectations of people of Norway where Ethics and Code of conduct are perceived very differently. Therefore, surprises is inevitable if the quality of business is not challenged and the culture of accountability is not established at the earliest.
