Norwegian broadband subsidy requests far outstrip supply

Norwegian postal and telecoms regulator PT said it has received 171 applications for NOK 713 million in applications for broadband subsidies, brokered by county councils. PT has NOK 160 million to allocate for 2014. The total cost of the projects for which funding was sought is NOK 1.3 billion. In other words, subsidies make up a total of 52 percent of the costs, although there were variations among applications. The subsidies are aimed to contribute to everyone in Norway having access to a basic, good quality broadband service, and to raising the provision of high-speed broadband in sparsely
