Norwegian govt defends NOK 50 mln cut in public broadband subsidies in 2019 draft budget

Thursday 11 October 2018 | 12:39 CET | News
Norwegian Transport Minister Jon Georg Dale has defended the decision to cut broadband subsidies in the draft budget for 2019. The government is proposing to provide NOK 99.8 million next year to support broadband expansion in places where it is not commercially viable, which is a reduction of NOK 50 million over 2018. Dale told newspaper Nationen that the private sector invests NOK 8.3 billion annual on broadband, and that it is more important to lower costs than to provide state funds.
