Sky's Now TV to launch new streaming stick, standalone broadband

Sky's NOW TV streaming service plans to launch a new streaming stick called NOW TV Smart Stick. It will go on sale from February for GBP 14.99, with Sky claiming this will be the cheapest streaming stick available in the UK.

Powered by Roku, the portable plug-and-play device will include voice search technology to help users find their favourite content quickly. For GBP 19.99, the stick can be bundled with a 2-month NOW TV Entertainment Pass for access to 11 pay-TV channels and over 300 box sets. It can also be bundled with a one-month Sky Cinema Pass for GBP 19.99, or one-month Sky Sports Pass for GBP 29.99.

NOW TV also confirmed plans to roll out downloads to the NOW TV app across mobile devices for the kids, entertainment and cinema passes, starting in spring 2018 with the Kids Pass. By end-2018, NOW TV also plans to offer the option of streaming NOW TV both live and on-demand in full HD, with content including Sky Atlantic, Sky Sports and Sky One.

NOW TV also announced that new broadband customers will be able to get its broadband service as a standalone, contract-free service without having to bundle it with a NOW TV Pass. NOW Broadband will launch in the next few weeks starting from GBP 18 per month. 'Brilliant Broadband' will offer speeds up to 17 Mbps, 'Fab Fibre' will offer speeds up to 38 Mbps, and 'Super Fibre' will offer speeds up to 76 Mbps.
