NTT Docomo taps Nokia Siemens, Panasonic for LTE-A
Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) and Panasonic Mobile Communications have been selected by NTT Docomo to develop enhanced mobile broadband network architecture for LTE-A. As part of a multi-year agreement, the two companies will provide NTT Docomo with base stations optimised for the requirements of LTE-A. These base stations will ensure initial equipment capacity of 300 Mbps in the network and enable new cloud-based architecture and services. The two vendors will provide Remote Radio Head (RRH) to roll-out small cells to enhance the coverage and capacity of the LTE-A network. Nokia Siemens and Panasonic Mobile Communications will develop, and deliver base station hardware and software based on NSN's Liquid Radio architecture. This will provide capacity and throughputs with centralised and coordinated processing for heterogeneous networks (HetNet).
