Japanese mobile operator NTT Docomo will launch its LTE-Advanced next-generation mobile communication service featuring a maximum data-transmission speed of 225Mbps on 27 March. The use of carrier aggregation technology will enable Docomo LTE-Advanced to achieve its ultra-high speed downlink, which will be further boosted to a maximum 300 Mbps towards the end of the next fiscal year ending in March 2016. The maximum uplink will be 50 Mbps.
The Docomo LTE-Advanced network will initially launch in 22 prefectures, including Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka. Nationwide availability is scheduled for March 2016.
Two Docomo mobile Wi-Fi routers will be available for the service, namely the Wi-Fi Station HW-02G, and the L-01G. Docomo will also expand its lineup of compatible smartphones soon.
Docomo’s LTE-Advanced service will introduce the Advanced C-RAN network architecture, designed to increase radio capacity and maximum transmission speed simultaneously especially in high-traffic areas.
