Docomo achieves 1.2 Gbps with new LTE-A antenna

Japanese operator NTT Docomo announced it achieved the world's first transmission exceeding 1.2 Gbps in a field test using a single-size antenna incorporating a new transmission technology, Smart Vertical Mimo, for LTE-Advanced systems. Docomo's new Smart Vertical Mimo transmission technology, which uses adaptive grouping of vertical antenna components according to the reception quality for mobile devices in the transmission area, enables a single-size antenna to achieve throughput equivalent to that of a four-antenna system. 

Smart Vertical Mimo is a key technological development in the planned deployment of Docomo's LTE-Advanced network by the end of the fiscal year ending 31 March 2016. The operator said the technology reduces the cost and space of installing antenna equipment and improves spectrum utilisation efficiency. Space reduction is particularly beneficial for deployments in congested urban areas.

Japanese mobile operator NTT Docomo will launch its LTE-Advanced next-generation mobile communication service featuring a maximum data-transmission speed of 225Mbps on 27 March. SK Telecom to deploy LTE-A nationwide

South Korean operator SK Telecom is planning to next year deploy its LTE-A network across the country. The operator demonstrated the upgraded LTE-A service that offers speeds of up to 225 Mbps by aggregating 20 MHz bandwidth in 1.8G Hz band and 10 MHz bandwidth in 800 MHz spectrum bands. The wider bandwidth LTE-A service is set to launch in the second half of next year as smartphone chipsets that support 225 Mbps are currently being developed.

NTT Com to expand LTE data plans

Japan's NTT Communications' (NTT Com) will offer more LTE data services for smartphones and tablets this month. The company will add three data plans to its current two LTE plans with more options, the Nikkei reports. The new plans will range from JPY 980 to JPY 1,980 per month with data speeds of up to 112.5 Mpbs. The speed will be throttled when customers reach their data plan allowance. NTT Communications only offers LTE data services using the network of sister company NTT Docomo.

Japanese mobile operator NTT Docomo has announced that subscribers to its Xi LTE mobile service surpassed 15 million on 30 July. The service offers a downlink speed of 112.5 Mbps. NTT Docomo to increase LTE service to 150 Mbps

Japanese mobile operator NTT Docomo will begin verifying its Xi LTE service with a maximum downlink of 150 Mbps in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture from 30 July. The verification will take place prior to Docomo's planned launch of a 150 Mbps commercial Xi LTE service starting in parts of Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya this October.
