NTT Docomo to deploy 40,000 LTE stations this fiscal year

Japanese mobile operator NTT Docomo expects to deploy a total of 40,000 new LTE base stations across the country during fiscal year 2014 ending in March 2015, NTT Docomo president and CEO Kaoru Kato, told a conference call with investors. According to the executive, these deployments will enable the operator to reach a LTE coverage of 99 percent of Japan's territory. 

Kato also said that LTE will account for two-thirds of the expected JPY 690 billion investment for this fiscal year. Through this investment NTT Docomo expects to increase its LTE base stations by 170 percent, to 95,300 stations, and also the number of more than 100 Mbps LTE base stations will increase 10-fold to 40,000. 

The executive also said that for fiscal year 2014, the operator aims to reach operating revenues of JPY 4.590 trillion, up 2.9 percent year-on-year and a net income of JPY 480 billion, an increase of 3.3 percent.

NTT Docomo receives 1.2 mln applications for new plans

Japanese telecommunications operator NTT Docomo has received 1.2 million applications for its monthly plans, The Japan Times reports.The new plans will take effect in June. NTT Docomo's new plans allow subscribers to share monthly data quotas with family members. Other features include discounts for long-term users and customers aged 25 or younger. NTT Docomo's mobile subscribers totaled 63.10 million at the end of March, climbing 2.6 percent year-on-year.

Docomo to launch Japan's first VoLTE service

NTT Docomo announced that its Xi network will offer Japan's first LTE service for voice and video calls using VoLTE technology, beginning late June. NTT misses FY outlook, sees flat profits in 2014

Japanese operator NTT reported annual results slightly below its outlook, due to a weak performance at its mobile unit Docomo. Revenues were up 2.1 percent to JPY 10.925 trillion in the 12 months to March, but fell short of a target of JPY 11 trillion. Japanese mobile operator NTT Docomo posted a net profit of JPY 464.72 billion in the fiscal year ended 31 March, a decrease of 5.4 percent.
