NTT Docomo to deploy 40,000 LTE stations this fiscal year

Japanese mobile operator NTT Docomo expects to deploy a total of 40,000 new LTE base stations across the country during fiscal year 2014 ending in March 2015, NTT Docomo president and CEO Kaoru Kato, told a conference call with investors. According to the executive, these deployments will enable the operator to reach a LTE coverage of 99 percent of Japan's territory. 

Kato also said that LTE will account for two-thirds of the expected JPY 690 billion investment for this fiscal year. Through this investment NTT Docomo expects to increase its LTE base stations by 170 percent, to 95,300 stations, and also the number of more than 100 Mbps LTE base stations will increase 10-fold to 40,000. 

The executive also said that for fiscal year 2014, the operator aims to reach operating revenues of JPY 4.590 trillion, up 2.9 percent year-on-year and a net income of JPY 480 billion, an increase of 3.3 percent.
