NTT opens London 1 data center, triples UK data center footprint

NTT has opened a new data center in Dagenham, East London. Dubbed the ‘London 1’ data center, the facility is the latest addition to NTT’s portfolio, which includes five other data center in the UK in Hemel Hempstead and Slough. NTT says the new location will more than triple the company’s data center footprint in the UK. NTT also expects 100 people with technical and operational skills to be employed at London 1 Data Center when it is fully operational with clients.

London 1 Data Center opens as part of NTT’s ongoing GBP 500 million data center investment plan. The Department for International Trade has provided extensive support for the company throughout the investment process, connecting the business with government and providing information on the Technology and Data Center markets in the UK, skills and training, and smart cities opportunities. The department will continue to provide support for expansion of NTT’s data center portfolio in the UK as they look to secure additional facilities to meet growing demand.

This investment follows the UK-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement signed in September this year.

When fully operational, London 1 Data Center is expected to have 25,600 square meters of IT space and a maximum IT load of 64 MW. It will provide businesses with physical and technical infrastructure supported by N+1 UPS systems, generator backup, as well as highly redundant cooling systems. The data center also includes a Technology Experience Lab, which will be used to test new technologies and validate hybrid cloud services.
