NXP unveils USD 5 bln share buyback programme after solid Q2, abandoned deal with Qualcomm

NXP Semiconductors reported a solid set of results for the second quarter, as it absorbed news its merger with Qualcomm is off. The takeover of NXP was abandoned after Qualcomm was unable to get the regulatory approval in China that it needed by the deadline of 25 July. NXP confirmed it will get the promised termination fee of USD 2 billion and added that while it was disappointed in the news, it is confident in its future as an independent market leader.
