NZ govt announces new rural connectivity targets

The New Zealand Government has announced a new rural connectivity target for areas outside the Ultra-Fast Broadband (UFB) footprint. Under this target almost all (99%) New Zealanders will be able to access broadband at maximum speeds of at least 50 Mbps by 2025. The remaining one percent will able to access maximum speeds up to 10 Mbps (up from dial up or non-existent speeds). Rural communities will benefit most from the new targets which mark a tenfold increase on the current target peak speeds of 5 Mbps under the Rural Broadband Initiative (RBI).
