O2 Czech Republic to launch 5G services in July

Mobile operator O2 Czech Republic plans to launch commercial 5G services in Prague and Kolin on 01 July, a first in the country. The services will be available for all subscribers of the operator. 

5G NR technology on NSA architecture will be used. The 5G network will be used for data services, with voice connection carried out on the LTE network. The operator will use active antennas with Massive MIMO 32T32R and 256QAM. A 40 MHz block of the 3.7 GHz band, as well as technologies from Ericsson, Nokia and Huawei, will be used. 

Around 50 senders will operate in several neighbourhoods in Prague; about 15 percent of the population of the capital city will be covered. One sender will operate in Kolin. 

5G services will be available on the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and Galaxy S20+ 5G smartphones. Sales of the Samsung Galaxy A51 5G will start in July. The operator expects speeds of up to 600 Mbps will be available on the network. 

O2 Cezch Republic is deploying the 5G network in cooperation with infrastructure operator CETIN.

O2 Czech Republic has tested Ericsson's radio network equipment. A part of the city of Prague is already covered by the new technology, and more locations will be added.

Cetin and Ericsson signed a cooperation agreement on the construction of a new 5G mobile network and modernisation of the RAN. The upgrade is expected to improve user experience when accessing mobile services, reduce energy consumption and contribute to the efficient construction of a 5G nationwide network.

CETIN to deploy 5G network using equipment from Ericsson

Ericsson has won a tender to supply 5G network equipment to the Czech infrastructure provider CETIN, reports Mobilmania.cz. The PPF group owns CETIN, which provides infrastructure for O2 Czechia. PPF board member Vladimir Mlynar announced the decision on Twitter, and PPF and Ericsson said they would publish the details of the project when the contractual matters are completed.

O2 mobile revenues down in Czechia, Slovakia in Q2

O2 Czech Republic said that the coronavirus pandemic negatively impacted particularly roaming and mobile handset revenue in the second quarter. As a result, mobile revenue in the Czech Republic and Slovakia decreased in the period. Revenue growth in the fixed segment also slowed, from 12.4 percent in the first quarter to 5.2 percent in the second quarter. Total operating revenue remained flat year-on-year in the second quarter at CZK 9.7 billion, below the company's expectations.

Nokia said that its next-generation 5G AirScale Cloud RAN platform based on vRAN2.0 will be commercially available in 2020 with general availability expected in 2021, following a series of successful trials. Czech regulator extends consultation for 5G auction

Czech regulator CTU said the deadline to submit comments to the public consultation for 5G auctions, for the use of frequencies in the 700 MHz and 3,440–3,600 MHz band, will be extended to 4 May from 16 April. The consultation was launched on 16 March. The decision was made at the request of telecom industry groups and in light of the coronavirus (covid-19) epidemic.
