O2 UK, WIG deliver connectivity for West Midlands driverless vehicle trials

Friday 9 November 2018 | 09:55 CET | News

O2 UK has signed an agreement with Wireless Infrastructure Group (WIG) to deliver connectivity for driverless vehicle test bed trials in the West Midlands. O2 will support the design of a fibre-connected small cell network as part of the project.

Due to launch in 2022, the scheme forms part of the Midlands Future Mobility Project. O2 will provide connectivity along a 50-mile route running from Birmingham to Coventry to test new driverless vehicle technologies. The next phase of the programme will see O2 develop advanced communications services to support the West Midlands test bed, as well as provide engineering support around the design of small cells used along the route.
