O3b Networks sees new deals in Timor, Palau, Solomon
O3b Networks has entered into an agreement with Timor Telecom to continue providing services to the operator over its satellite-enabled network. Timor Telecom first started using the O3b network in 2014, and has upgraded capacity several times to keep up with soaring data demand and to launch mobile data services. The O3b connection provides Timor Telecom with fibre-equivalent internet performance, which allowed the company to provide a differentiated 3G service to customers across the country. Timor Telecom receives more than 1Gbps of international connectivity from O3b, delivered to 2 sites, one in Dilli and another in Baucau.

O3b also announced that Palau Telecoms increased its network capacity and Solomon Telekom Company, trading under the name Our Telekom, upgraded its receiving O3b antenna size to increase the amount of throughput available to their subscribers. Palau Telecoms increased network capacity for the fifth time in less than 24 months, nearly doubling its service capacity since going live over O3b. Its last upgrade was made in November 2016. Our Telekom upgraded the receiving O3b antenna size in response to rapid growth in data usage. Our Telekom will use the upgrade to expand its 3G networks across the country. A satellite IP trunking deal was signed by O3b and Our Telekom in January 2016.

O3b Networks ended 2016 contracting upwards of 7.5 Gbps throughout the APAC region, and generating an increase of approximately 30 percent year-on-year growth for the total used bandwidth. The company said that over the course of the year, all existing O3b APAC customers upgraded their contracted capacity and, most notably, two Tier-1 Telco providers were added to the company’s customer roster.
