Our Telekom, O3b reach Solomon Islands trunking deal

Satellite services provider O3b Networks has announced a contract to deliver trunking services to Solomon Telekom Company Limited, trading as Our Telekom. As part of the deal, Our Telekom will expand its network to significantly increase bandwidth and improve the speed and quality of service for business and residential customers in Honiara, and, over time, for the Outer Islands as well. The increased bandwidth also enables distance education, telemedicine, live ultra HD video streaming, high-speed downloads and clear voice calls, said O3b.

O3b is now the leading satellite IP trunking provider in the Pacific region, delivering its satellite IP trunking services to 13 Pacific Island nations. Its O3bTrunk service offers round-trip latency of less than 150 milliseconds, comparable to long haul fibre.

Solomon Telekom Company, trading under the name Our Telekom, is boosting its capacity with SES Networks to support the launch of its upcoming 4G/LTE network across the Solomon Islands archipelago. Our Telekom is upgrading fibre-like high throughput capacity again on the O3b Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellite fleet to roll out a suite of 4G/LTE services for consumers and businesses in 2017 in response to rapidly rising data consumption by subscribers.

O3b Networks sees new deals in Timor, Palau, Solomon

O3b Networks has entered into an agreement with Timor Telecom to continue providing services to the operator over its satellite-enabled network. Timor Telecom first started using the O3b network in 2014, and has upgraded capacity several times to keep up with soaring data demand and launch mobile data services.
