Oath pays USD 5 mln to settle charges it targeted online ads at kids under 13

The new Verizon Media Group/Oath division, parent of AOL and Yahoo, has settled a case with the New York attorney general around charges it targeted ads at children under 13, and so violated the federal Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998, known as the Coppa, the New York Times reported. Oath has agreed to pay 5 USD million, the largest a company has ever paid for a case tied to Coppa. A spokesperson for Oath said the company was pleased to see this matter resolved and that it remains "wholly committed" to protecting children's privacy online.
