Rene Obermann, the former CEO of Deutsche Telekom and current CEO of Dutch cable company Ziggo, is to join US-based Warburg Pincus as a partner, to help find private equity deals in the telecoms sector and in Germany. The appointment is expected to materialise by the end of the year, once the sale of Ziggo to Liberty Global is completed, people with knowledge of the move told the Financial Times. Warburg Pincus declined to comment. Before Ziggo, which Warburg Pincus co-owned with Cinven, Obermann, 51, worked at Deutsche Telekom from 1998 until December 2013, including seven years as CEO.
