Ofcom consults on opening up 'white spaces' band

UK regulator Ofcom has opened a consultation on opening 'TV white space' frequencies to wireless broadband services. The proposal focuses on frequencies from 470 MHz to 790 MHz (the UHF TV band) which are currently used for digital terrestrial television, programme making and special events. With the use of dynamic spectrum allocation technology, this spectrum also could be used for new broadband services. The consultation looks at ways to limit interference with existing services in the band, in preparation for a trial of the services in the coming year. The aim is to make nationwide
