Ofcom eyes earlier release of 700MHz band for mobile data

Friday 11 March 2016 | 15:40 CET | News
UK regulator Ofcom has published a consultation on proposals to bring forward the release of 700 MHz spectrum for mobile data services as soon as possible. Initial plans indicated that it would be possible to make the band available by end-2021. However, Ofcom's analysis shows that benefits to citizens and consumers would be greater if it was available sooner. The consultation outlines proposals that would enable Ofcom bring forward the point at which this spectrum is nationally available for mobile data by up to 18 months - to a target of no later than Q2 2020.
