Ofcom in white spaces trial with YouTube at London zoo

Friday 10 October 2014 | 09:25 CET | News
Ofcom has launched its seventh trial of TV "white space" trials, using gaps in the radio spectrum between frequency bands, with Google and ZSL London Zoo. A live web stream of meerkats, otters and Galapagos turtles is available on YouTube. Compared with other forms of wireless technologies, such as regular Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, the radio waves used by TV white space devices can travel longer distances and more easily through walls. Following the completion of trials, testing and policy development, the regulator expects that the technology could be rolled out next year.
