Ofcom launches consultation into ending mandatory copper networks

Openreach has asked Ofcom to alter its regulations to allow the network business to withdraw legacy copper-wire connectivity in areas where it has completed the roll-out of all-fibre infrastructure. The regulator said it recognized that uncertainty over how long Openreach would have to run parallel copper and fibre services is a potential risk for investment and launched a consultation into the company's proposal.
