Ofcom publishes draft measures to promote full-fibre networks

Friday 23 February 2018 | 11:03 CET | News
UK regulator Ofcom has published a package of measures to further increase investment in full-fibre broadband networks. Under these draft decisions, BT will be required to make its telegraph poles and underground tunnels open to rival providers, helping them build full-fibre networks directly to households. Ofcom believes this could reduce the upfront cost of laying fibre cables by around 50 percent from GBP 500 per home to GBP 250, thereby fundamentally changing the business case for building new fibre networks.
