Oi chairman to take over as CEO
The board of Brazil's Telemar Participacoes, the holding company of operator Oi, named Jose Mauro Mettrau Carneiro da Cunha the new CEO of Oi and its controlled companies, replacing Francisco Tosta Valim Filho. Carneiro da Cunha resigned from the role of chairman of Oi, and Jose Augusto da Gama Figueira was appointed to take over. The move follows press reports that the relationship between shareholders of Oi and Valim had become "unsustainable."

Search for Oi CEO to last up to 5 months - report

The search for the new CEO of Brazilian telecommunications operator Oi could last four to five months, according to the Otavio Azevedo, head of Andrade Gutierrez, one of the operator's main shareholders. On 22 January, Oi announced the departure of Francisco Valim as executive president and named the then-president of the board of directors, Jose Mauro Carneiro da Cunha, to the post on an interim basis.

Oi forecasts continued growth in 2013

Brazilian operator Oi reported a small improvement in 2012 results and said it expects to continue the growth in 2013. Net revenue returned to growth, up by BRL 235 million to BRL 28.1 billion, driven by growth in the mobile market. While the figure was slightly below the company's outlook as earlier flagged, service revenues slightly exceeded target at BRL 27.5 billion. Oi FY results fall short of expectations

In response to the instability created in the financial market by announcing a change of CEO, Brazilian telecommunications operator Oi has decided to anticipate some of its results for 2012, albeit based on unaudited figures. It said net revenue for 2012 is expected to have been BRL 27.5 billion, slightly less than the BRL 27.9 billion recorded in 2011 and below the BRL 28.9 billion provided as guidance in the strategic plan. Oi shares fall on report of dissatisfaction with CEO

The shares of Brazilian operator Oi dropped more than 5 percent in a day after local weekly Veja reported alleged discontent among shareholders with the CEO Francisco Valim. Oi shares lost 5.13 percent on 21 January to BRL 8.70, posting the biggest loss since November, according to Bloomberg. In the article, Veja columnist Lauro Jardim said that the relationship between the owners of Oi and the company chairman is "unsustainable" and is near breaking point after the results in 2012.
