One in five use social media as news source - survey

Over a fifth (22%) of internet users follow news on social networks such as Facebook, Xing or Twitter, according to a survey conducted on behalf of German IT association Bitkom among 1,042 internet users. This applies in particular to young internet users; 32 percent of the respondents aged 14-29 read or watch the news on social networks compared to 2 percent of those aged 65 or older. Almost half (46%) of those who follow the news on social media use Facebook, ahead of Xing (31%) and Twitter (30%).
