The Open Fiber wholesale-only venture of Italian utility giant Enel and state lender CDP has announced a deal with Treviso city council to build a wholesale fibre-optic network in the Veneto locality in a total investment of around EUR 11 million. The company said it will begin the work in December and plans to bring FTTH services at speeds of up to 1Gbps to a total of 32,000 homes, offices, schools and public buildings throughout the city.

In September Open Fiber revealed that it has already connected 2 million homes to its fibre-optic network and is targeting a total of 19 million households and businesses by 2022 in a total investment of some EUR 6.5 billion.
